Caroline has always been a sports fan – like the rest of her family. Her parents, Piotr and Anna Wozniacki, have both been professional athletes. Anna played volleyball for Poland, and Piotr can look back on a career as professional soccer player. The Polish couple moved to Denmark in the late 80s when Piotr went to play for the Danish soccer club B1909 in Odense. After a couple of years in Denmark, Caroline was born, on July 11, 1990.

Already from the age of two, Caroline and her brother Patrik (four years older than Caroline) participated in a lot physical activities, and they were taught how to swim at a young age. As her elder brother started playing soccer, Caroline wanted to play the game as well. And as he took up tennis, she followed closely in his footsteps and instantly fell in love with the sport. Caroline could be seen playing tennis for hours with her dad at the tennis club in their home town Koge. She didn’t seem to be able to get enough of the game, constantly pushing her dad to play yet another match with her.

The hard training quickly paid off. Nine-year old Caroline started to win the matches against the rest of her family. When she won the singles title in the Osaka Mayor’s Cup in Japan at 14 years of age in October 2004, it was clear that she had the potential to achieve great results as a tennis player. Since then, she has won quite a few titles, including the Junior Championships in Wimbledon in 2006.

Since then, Caroline officially turned pro and has won six Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Singles Titles including the Japan Open, New Haven and Stockholm in 2008 and in 2009 she has won the Ponte Vedra Beach, Eastbourne and New Haven titles. At the 2009 US Open, Caroline made her debut Grand Slam singles appearance in the quarterfinals, semifinals and final before falling to former Sony Ericsson WTA World #1 Kim Clijsters. After her tremendous US Open, Caroline officially qualified for the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships set to take place in Doha in November which comprises of the top eight players in the world, and went all the way to the semifinals. En route to the semifinals, she beat two top ranked oppenents (Zvonareva and Azarenka) in two dramatic three-setters.

In addition to this, Caroline was named and awarded the 2008 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Newcomer of the Year presented at the 2009 Sony Ericsson Open, and is the youngest singles player ranked in the top 10 in the world.

Caroline started off the 2010 season well; she advanced to the 4th round of the Australian Open, before falling to Chinese Na Li. Caroline the proceeded to the finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Despite her loss in the finals, she climbed to a career-high #2 ranking. After her great run in Indian Wells, she defended her title on the green clay of Ponte Vedra, claiming her 7th career title.

About Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez
Alex Rodriguez

Alexander Emmanuel "Alex" Rodriguez (born July 27, 1975) is an American Major League Baseball third baseman for the New York Yankees. He previously played shortstop for the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers.
Rodriguez is considered one of the best all-around baseball players of all time. He is the youngest player ever to hit 500 home runs, breaking the record Jimmie Foxx set in 1939, and the youngest to hit 600, besting Babe Ruth's record by over a year. Rodriguez has more 100-RBI seasons than any player in history. On Sept. 24th, 2010, Rodriguez hit two homeruns, surpassing Sammy Sosa's mark of 609 HRs, and became the All-Time leader in Home Runs by a player of hispanic descent.December 2007, Rodriguez and the Yankees agreed to a 10-year, $275 million contract. This contract was the richest contract in baseball history (breaking his previous record of $252 million).

In February 2009, after previously denying use of performance-enhancing drugs, including during a 2007 interview with Katie Couric on 60 Minutes, Rodriguez admitted to using steroids, saying he used them from 2001 to 2003 when playing for the Texas Rangers due to what he called "an enormous amount of pressure" to perform

Alex Rodriguez

Background
Rodriguez was born in the Washington Heights section of New York City to a Dominican family. When he was four, Rodriguez and his parents moved to the Dominican Republic, then to Miami, Florida. Rodriguez's favorite baseball players when he was growing up were Keith Hernandez, Dale Murphy, and Cal Ripken, and his favorite team was the New York Mets.[8]
High school
Rodriguez was a star shortstop at Miami's Westminster Christian High School. In 100 games he batted .419 with 90 steals. Westminster went on to win the high school national championship in his junior year. He was first team prep All-American as a senior, hitting .505 with 9 home runs, 36 RBIs, and 35 steals in 35 tries in 33 games, and was selected as the USA Baseball Junior Player of the Year and as Gatorade's national baseball student athlete of the year. Rodriguez was the first high school player to ever try out for Team USA in 1993, and was regarded as the top prospect in the country.
Alex Rodriguez

University of Miami
Rodriguez signed a letter of intent to play baseball for the University of Miami and was also recruited by the university to play quarterback for its football team. Rodriguez turned down Miami's baseball scholarship and never played college baseball, opting instead to sign with the Seattle Mariners after being selected in the first round of the amateur draft at the age of 17. In 2003, Rodriguez gave $3.9 million to the University of Miami to renovate its baseball stadium. The new facility will be named "Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field". Rodriguez remains an ardent University of Miami fan, and can frequently be found at Hurricane sporting events, as well as working out at the school's athletic facilities in the off-season. He received the University of Miami's Edward T. Foote II Alumnus of Distinction Award in 2007. Rodriguez had previously been named an "honorary alumnus" of the university in 2004. He is a member of the University of Miami's Board of Trustees.
